Also, this movie implies non commissioned officers and enlisted men serving a board the enterprise.

>this movie implies non commissioned officers and enlisted men
Wouldn't that be an automatic assumption? Actually speaking about staffing, it always stuck me as perverse that federation starships bring families on board.

>>242244 #
Normally but Rodenberry, I don't remember exactly, wanted Starfleet to be all commissioned officers. Chief Brian is the only person given a significant role as an enlisted man.
>families
That's a TNG thing and yes it's insane.

>wanted Starfleet to be all commissioned officers
but the point of an NCO corps is to ground the young officers with the experience of the enlisted. An all officer force supplanted by computers would get annihilated in the first real war.

Yes but in the 20th century going to college meant you were "smart", so in the advanced future everyone becomes "smarter".
>an all officer force supplanted by computers
I think we are going to find that out soon enough if they try WW3 or as close as it ever will be.

The plot armor of the original crew is kind of annoying. Why not kill chekov at least? They seem to have forgotten that the bug kills.

Whatever you think of this movie, Khan is the best.

>think of the movie
I like it. I guess I expected it to be more dramatic in a shakespearian sense, not just Khan quoting the stuff. I don't think most of the bridge crew fit well in the movie.

>Khan is the best
Yes.

Star Trek III is interesting in retrospect because it gives us modern Klingons.
>just quoting stuff
That's erudite for the boomers. Pro-tip, most Star Trek movies aren't good movies but long /tv/ episodes. Star Trek sucks as movies IMO.

I think the first hour of the movie would have made a good TV show.

I wonder if Spock's death scene is partly why people got so mad at Fallout 3's original ending.
>>242271 #
The water purifier gets poisoned and to fix it, you have to enter a room with fatal levels of radiation. If you bring a companion with you who is immune to radiation, the game makes you go inside anyway and the companion dialogue is that it's your destiny.

They most likely ripped off the ending to this movie. The amount of inspiration from 80s movies the games has is a lot. Halo: CE is a pretty blantant ripoff of Aliens(1986).

I'm interested but be honest, are the other movies actually good as movies or are they just decent TOS episodes with more budget?
>>242284 #

Ok, ST 2, 3, 4, are the "trilogy". 3 is mid, 4 is the one everyone remembers, the one with the whales. ST 5 is a meme movie, that ending is straight out of the TOS, it's a long episode of the /tv/ show. ST 6 however is far more interesting because it came out in 1991 and it's all end of the Cold War stuff. That one we should watch for sure.

>>242286 #
ST 4 was a big hit in '86 btw.
>ST 5
You can skip it but the ending is hilarious, at least to me.

I will make the thread for 3 for next weekend. In retrospect, that movie is notable for giving us the Klingon design that became the standard.

>Intent on returning home to Earth to face consequences for their actions in the previous film, the crew of the USS Enterprise finds the planet in grave danger from an alien probe attempting to contact now-extinct humpback whales. The crew travel to Earth's past to find whales who can answer the probe's call.
lol this sounds goofy enough to be fun. I won't spoil myself on the plot.

There is an ENT two parter that "explains" the visual differences. It's actually good you wanted that DS9 episode last night. It's so stupid. Worff should have been in 60s makeup, it would have been funny too.

You know I don't. I purged the post for the sake of his assumed family's privacy. That's why the purge message is "private". He's equally scum if he shared that from real people or made it up for attention.

Honestly its nostalgia
Long time ago I was on a cross country bus trip, had no phone, brought 2 books, lost one and the other was boring and literally the only thing to do was to watch the TNG movies that were playing on the super old school bus mounted CRT tvs
