ugh. A cour is a run of 10-13 episodes within a broadcast season, which is distinct from a show season. Seasonal anime is divided up into 4 broadcast seasons a year based on the actual seasons, but a single season show can stretch across multiple broadcast seasons. In that case 12 episodes in Spring and 12 in Summer would be considered independent cours/parts of the same season. They're considered the same season because anime is scheduled and (usually) produced ahead of time. A split cour show is where one season of a show is divided into 2+ cours of non-contiguous broadcast seasons e.g. 12 episodes in Spring and 12 in Winter. Split cour shows have been dying out for a while as the anime market gets more saturated with shitty LN adaptations, no one wants to schedule a broadcast well ahead of time until the franchise is massive like Gundam.

idk if I can recommend others. Most of them are very long, the modern ones that aren't are crap. You could try some of the 0079 OVAs like 0080, MS IGLOO, Stardust Memory, Thunderbolt or 08th MS Team. They all assume you recently watched the original show or the compilation movies tho.
