>I am happy to finally announce that I am working on the new Ghost in the Shell series as a lead character design artist!✨ Watching Mamoru Oshii’s first Ghost in the Shell movie at the age of 6 made me fall in love with it (and Japanese animation overall) because of how extraordinary captivating it’s visuals were, and it’s one of the reasons that made me decide to pursue an artist career. Working on the latest series of a title that means so much to me is a great honor, and I’m designing Motoko as well as other characters with all the love and respect for Ghost in the Shell I have in my heart.

I often encode lower bitrate videos because it's faster, though I can compress from way higher bitrate sources too, as this encode demonstrates.
>There's pretty bad ringing around the fingers and eyebrows.
Yeah, that's to be expected...considering it's a CRF 57 encode. When the CRF is that low it's more impressive. I'm testing a config that goes out of its way to incorporate more processes so ultralow quality can approximate higher quality and bitrate encodes, so the fact that that is the only visible degradation is affirming to witness as opposed to more traditional macroblocking from older video codecs.
This one is CRF 55 with Opus at 32kbps so I'm surprised it fit under the upload limit.
>>199887 #
>Why do you watch reencodes?
Not that anon, but it's fun to squish what used to be a 1.6GB file into 1/16th the size and see how much you can preserve within those limitations. For a lot of people the tradeoffs are much less visible than in the past to care. Compression has come a far way that a lot of people don't realize.

>>200144 #
Really, TGITS is an intensive show to put AV1 through the limits since there's a lot of noise and motion, so for me it's almost impossible not to compress it as a benchmark and see how much detail can be preserved, since AV1 is notorious for scrubbing and smudging over high frequency detail and I'm trying to control for that while working within lower bitrates.
>>199876 #
>budget
I'd more or less guess this production had time taken on it. I don't want to go into a big rant over how people only noticed Science SARU AFTER Masaaki Yuasa who helped founded it stepped away, and thus SARU instead of working on boring arthouse ching chong crap made the real factory shonenshit normalfags eat up, given this is nearly identical to what happened to MAPPA. Or how SARU employs a shitload of Westerners, or how SARU censors a lot of stuff to comply with globohomo which is why I'm watching this adaptation very closely.

>I thought only h265 encoders did that by default.
Really, most modern video codecs are racing with each other to try and see who can hit lower bitrates and higher "psychovisual" quality first, and...that happens a lot in that arena. All those Xitter reshares from a load of outsiders in the main /homu/ thread are unbearable to look at given they're H264 ultralow quality reencodes.
>>200158 #
>I tried my own CRF55 encode with upstream svtav1
>>200144 #
>For a lot of people the tradeoffs are much less visible than in the past to care
I notice. Personally if I was going to upload full episodes to share here, I'd rather reduce resolution than increase CRF. My browser is tiled so the inner window is about 1/3rd the width of my screen after vertical tabs, the taskbar and spacing.
>>200151 #
>AV1 is notorious for scrubbing and smudging over high frequency detail
I thought only h265 encoders did that by default.
>>200144 #
I tried my own CRF55 encode with upstread svtav1 and it looks like shit jej. Should try it again with variance boost.
>All those Xitter reshares from a load of outsiders in the main /homu/ thread are unbearable to look at given they're H264 ultralow quality reencodes.
Are you talking about the war videos and random memes? There's not much that can be done about that since the source is bad. Sometimes I make my own AV1 clips from anime but it's awkward since I need to set the start and end time manually, I don't do it often.like I said before, 15 minute timeout on open posts

>>200158 #
>I tried my own CRF55 encode with upstream svtav1
SVT-AV1 has gotten a lot better over the past few years thanks to forks explicitly designed to rework and control for higher psychovisual quality (basically getting it to resemble H265 and 266 without the royalties involved), but it's still missing a lot of features from them. I know a lot of the custom settings I turn on for my encodes are ridiculous and consume a lot of memory and time while encoding.
>Are you talking about the war videos and random memes?
It's images and videos with the media_* naming scheme in general. It all looks like shit and if that's the bar that fags are willing to tolerate (along with all the algorithmic gobbledygook they spout), my ultralow quality encodes are easily a step up.
>>200151 #
>how SARU censors a lot of stuff to comply with globohomo which is why I'm watching this adaptation very closely.
To be honest, I don't pay much attention to studios unless they're really big names. The only other show of theirs I've watched was Devilman Crybaby, which was repulsive.

>>200159 #
>media_* naming scheme in general
That comes from alternate twitter frontends like xcancel.
>It all looks like shit
It doesn't look any worse for being saved from twitter. Blame the original uploader for uploading a bad encode in a lossy format. Even when you grab things from danbooru these days, the source is often from twitter, meaning it has undergone visually lossless compression to save a few shekels in bandwidth. The entire reason the anime piracy scene got so obsessed with encoding quality is because the sources the japs were putting out were so shit that groups were doing complex manual per-scene filtering on BD releases. Probably still are.

>>200163 #
>It doesn't look any worse for being saved from twitter.
Which is my very point.
https://blog.x.com/engineering/en_us/topics/infrastructure/2020/introducing-vmaf-percentiles-for-video-quality-measurements
They literally come up with sophisticated bullshit to justify why a 1080p video is encoded at 800kbps with H.264 fast preset. And they only use H.264 because it's an old video codec guaranteed to be compatible with all devices, not because of any inherent technical merit.
>it has undergone visually lossless compression
I really really doubt that.
My point is, it's all very silly to nitpick a low quality AV1 encode when so much lower quality compression objectively is accepted and even normalized simply because le billion dollar corporation does it.also this JPG I'm uploading is compressed as hell too
>>200160 #
>which was repulsive
Agreed.
Anyways, this was the censorship I was bitching about earlier from SARU. From a season co-directed by a waito piggu too.
>durrrrrr you're being too paranoid
I really hope this isn't that sort of space, because people laughed off safety shorts in vidya too and now they're everywhere.
>>200177 #
>doubt that
The lossless part was a joke. I'm sure they do the same awful shit youtube does.
>very silly to nitpick a low quality AV1 encode
I didn't intend to nitpick it, I'm just not used to seeing someone seriously try to fit good looking encodes at native res into the file size limit here. I did it a few times for Prisma Illya, but that show was clearly made in 720p so it was easier to compress well. My only real complain is using h265 reencodes as the source. Webrips might be bloated these days and the encoding quality of stream companies has always been dubious, but making it worse bugs me since I've been a scene orbiter for a long time.
>durrrrrr you're being too paranoid
What do you mean? Anons here are well aware of jap games getting censored at the source these days. It's just harder to find info about the same thing happening in anime.
>>200178 #
>anons here are well aware of jap games getting censored
Given how many cuckchanners post and shit up the /homu/ thread it's all but guaranteed there are apologists too who want that crap to happen, VERY obvious when you go look over there and see how much support there was for Snowbreak getting censored, and when the harpies that got it censored got exposed for how psycho they were they got defended on cuckchan too.
>we came from meguca.org
Mostly talking about the outsiders and tourists.
>>200181 #
If you've ever seen the Love and Deepspace drama that got posted about even there, that's what I'm referencing. Yes, Valko, and the women who sent cow doodoo etcetera.
>gachashit
I basically only cared about the drama because SB undoubtedly influenced the wider market to start reinserting cheesecake and also visibly proved once and for all there's an organized agenda to persecute it.
>shamik.ooo

>it's all but guaranteed there are apologists too who want that crap to happen
Are you not aware that we came from meguca.org a decade ago? Half the old anons today came from megu/a/ and the other half from old 8chan /pol/.

>>200179 #
>snowbreak
I haven't kept up to date with gacha drama in a long time but I doubt even 4/v/ liked the censorship. Gacha games prey on addicts that will excuse anything so long as they can keep rolling for "waifus" and pay people to post there. Isn't that game about to EOS anyway?
>Love and Deepspace
The Valko thing?
>Mostly talking about the outsiders and tourists
I've got to ask, have you been to shamiko.org? That's the culturally closeted imageboard to /homu/.

>>200177 #
>From a season co-directed by a waito piggu too.
SAC_2025 had a white guy character designer. Hell, Origa was russian. The censorship isn't coming from the handful of white people working in the industry, it's coming from megacorps like Kadokawa and Sony that are turning anime into a globalized mass market product because the domestic market of only child otakus with access to their parent's credit card is shrinking rapidly.
>>200179 #
>Yes
I think you missed the point. Apart from one or two anons, everyone regularly posting on /homu/ has been in the megusphere for a long time.
>I doubt they are posting the "FELL FOR IT AGAIN" jaks, however
That's literally two people that I know as namefags. Both of them have been around since megu/pol/, and one of them is a very active shamigo.

i like it here so far, it's not too slow nor too fast.also it was state of play, not game awards

Anyone who doesn't like the sillier version of the major is tasteless. She actually has a personality now instead of pretending that vague identity issues (from being a full cyborg) are a substitute.

truck-kun..
Ahh, so now is the nekid woman on the roadway scene. I thought it was missing earlier.
I love this Motoko, pure charisma and gooning.
>staying up for 2 or 3 days won't kill you meat-boy
lol i thought he was wearing the mask
>ywn type 1'000 wpm
why even?
Motoko is strangely hot in this episode even though she's fully clothed.
It's actually cool, maybe even interdasting, listeng to schizos yap about that scene, and the seeing it IRL(in reel tiem)
I love Batou's car
IDK but I'm surprised that Cyberpunk 2077 didn't lead to a GitS clone.
might be schizo but I think they AI reproduced the major's VA from the original series for the puppetmaster's voice
gruesome twist
breddy spiritual take ngl

Matter and information at the same thing, the puppet master exists at this level. That's what I'm getting. Cyborg god basically if I understand it.
ughh nigger music
CAST ASIDE YOUR INHIBITIONS. BORTHER..

Chobitsuhave you played any armored core games?
>>217592 #
I'm illyathe admin
>>217593 #
Okay. I'll play more ACFA.

>>217596 #
Never heard of him before but I see what you mean.
>>217597 #
np. I thought you would be a mecha game fan. Now that I think about it, you might like dolls nest. It's an armored core clone made by nitroplus, the gimmick is that you bolt guns and gear onto a loli like kancolle.
>>217598 #
>I thought you would be a mecha game fan.
Oh I am. I just can spend time with the distraction. Shitposting I can do side-by-side.
BTW, /mecha/ lives again!

Anyone interested in adding this to the movie night backlog?

It's man-hating shite. No thanks.
Here's a reasonable selection of similar though:

This has a lot of budget for a show with not much going on other than CGDCG.
well that was quicker than I expected
tbh it was her own fault for standing up on a branch
Thankie for coming. Tomorrow night, more Tanya the Good and we're finishing Dungeon Meshi.
