As long as there is someone who will appreciate the work involved in creation, the effort is time well spent.

+-+-+On This Day+-+-+
1525 - The forces of the Habsburg emperor Charles V annihilated the army of Francis I of France at the Battle of Pavia.
1540 - Coronado leads expedition to find the Seven Cities of Cíbola. The group, consisting of more than a thousand men, explored much of the southwestern U.S. Smaller parties split from the main group and documented sights such as the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River.
1803 - In Marbury v. Madison, the U.S. Supreme Court declared an act of Congress unconstitutional, thus establishing the doctrine of judicial review.
1821 - Agustín de Iturbide put forth the Iguala Plan, in which he called for an independent Mexico ruled by a European prince (or himself, if such a prince could not be found). His plan also advocated for the Roman Catholic Church and military to retain their powers and equal rights for creoles and peninsulares.
1848 - The anti-monarchical Revolutions of 1848 reached France, the one nation where the insurgency was somewhat successful—and which led to the abdication of King Louis-Philippe.
1868 - The U.S. House of Representatives voted 126–47 to impeach President Andrew Johnson, whose Reconstruction policies regarding the South after the Civil War angered Radical Republicans. The move led to his political downfall, though he was acquitted by the Senate.
1976 - The regime of Fidel Castro adopted the constitution of Cuba, which mandated the operation of only one political party—the Communist Party of Cuba.
1991 - U.S. ground operations began in the Persian Gulf War, more than a month after the U.S. launched an air war against Iraq in response to Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.
2020 - American film producer Harvey Weinstein, whose career ended amid numerous allegations of sexual harassment and assault, was convicted of rape and a criminal sex act.
2022 - Russia launches a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

>Damage to soil/water/etc. can continue longer than most other things including us are viable in the current system. At least for burger.
In a general sense I definitely agree they're able to prolong the system for longer than people would expect. For ag specifically Im more hesitant, theres lots of studies and real world data on the damage monocropping by giant megafarms has done, and the worse it gets w/ production declines, the more imported fert and higher intensity farming and needed water increases become, its a death spiral of return on investments.
They would definitely cut out meat for the lower classes of course because that is a high land/resource equation, even with "good practice", cows specifically.

I haven't looked at machinery in a while, but if you want to do it by hand it's a mild pain to cut, a big pain to thresh, tons of winnowing, (lots of redoing and loss here) then grinding with a halfway decent grinder, sifting. Definitely want animals that can use all that waste. Haven't done a acreage estimate based on my actual numbers.

That's why I was talking about hominy (corn)at the beginning of the year. You grow it, pick it, shell it by hand, and do a lye bath and rinse. You don't need special tools or lots of beating

They knew what erosion rates were possible generations ago, there are soil surveys for every part of every agricultural county. I just mean they are willing to spoil everything, and with fertilizers and poisons available, they can keep farming the last bit of good out of a lot of ground if they want. And they don't mind.
Water is already a known unknown if you will, when it's gone, they know what will become margin

I've seen videos of people who get about half of what the USDA says the average bushel per acre of wheat is without pesticides or fertilizer for wheat. It seems worth it on a small scale if you have the land and know how.

If pacifist hostility toward war were so strong as to drive pacifists into a war against nonpacifists, in a war against war, that would prove that pacifism truly possesses political energy . . . this appears to be a peculiar way of justifying wars. The war is then considered to constitute the absolute last war of humanity. Such a war is necessarily intense and inhuman because, by transcending the limits of the political framework, it simultaneously degrades the enemy into moral and other categories and is forced to make of him a monster that must not only be defeated but also utterly destroyed. . . the feasibility of such a war is particularly illustrative of the fact that war as a real possibility is still present today.

~Tis good for men to love their present pains
Upon example; so the spirit is eas'd :
And when the mind is quicken'd, out of doubt
The organs, though defunct and dead before,
Break up their drowsy grave, and newly move
With casted slough and fresh legerity.~

>I don't think so. Shamiko has several smaller boards that are intermittently active, it's just a matter of getting regular activity on them through events and such.
I think shamiko has a lot more users. You need to overcome a threshold until a board comes active enough people would be interested in participating in it.

About 4-5x more. /lounge/ is something that the site will grow into imo. I expect that eventually this board will have less general discussion if we keep growing, since topics will get split off if they take over the thread too much. Not everyone wants to discuss games etc and this is ultimately megu/pol/.
